The Characters

Adriana (soprano): The toast of the French stage, Adriana is a beautiful and talented actress who is envied by multiple women and the object of many men’s desire. She is infatuated with Maurizio but fears unrequited love, which ultimately causes her to make a fatal mistake.


The Princess of Bouillon (mezzo-soprano): The unfaithful wife of the Prince, she does not take too well to Maurizio’s waning love. Jealous and cunning, she seeks vengeance against her rival and takes this mission to a deadly extreme.


Maurizio (tenor): The handsome Count of Saxony, Maurizio had entered into an affair with the Princess of Bouillion to further his political ambitions. However, his love for Adriana has eclipsed his attraction to the Princess, causing him to to sever all relationship ties with the Princess, a decision that hurts both the one he loves and the one he leaves.


Michonnet (baritone): The stage director at the Comédie-Française, Michonnet is hopelessly and perpetually in love with Adriana even though she does not feel the same.
