The Characters
Roxane (soprano): Cyrano’s beautiful cousin, in love with Christian.
Lise (soprano): Ragueneau’s wife.
La Duègne (mezzo-soprano): Roxane’s companion and chaperone.
Souer Marthe (mezzo-soprano): Nun at Roxane’s convent.
Cyrano (tenor): Captain of the Gascon Cadets. He is known for his bravery, eloquence, and large nose. He loves Roxane from afar.
Christian (tenor): Handsome new recruit in Cadets, in love with Roxane.
De Guiche (baritone): Commander of Cadets, a nobleman who despises Cyrano. He is also in love with Roxane.
De Valvert (baritone): A pompous nobleman.
Lignière (baritone): Cyrano’s friend, a drunkard with many enemies.
Ragueneau (baritone): A baker.
Carbon (baritone): Cyrano’s friend, Captain of his company.
Le Bret (bass baritone): Cyrano’s best friend and fellow member of the Cadets.
