The Characters
Imogene (soprano)-The Lady of the castle. She was once engaged to Gualtiero, with whom she was deeply in love-but was forced to marry Ernesto instead.
Gualtiero (tenor)-Imogene's old fiancé, a moody man ruled by his passions. He is a nobleman turned pirate, and lives for the chance to see Imogene again.
Ernesto (baritone)-Duke of the castle, Imogene's husband, and Gualtiero's mortal enemy. A selfish and cruel man, he forced Imogene to marry him against her will.
Goffredo (bass)-Gualtiero's old tutor. He has become a hermit, and lives in a small hut on the beach.
