The Characters
Teresa (Soprano) - Balducci’s beautiful young daughter. She has been promised to the sculptor Fieramosca, but is in love with Cellini.
Ascanio (Mezzo-Soprano) - Cellini’s trusty apprentice.
Benvenuto Cellini (Tenor) - A great artist and goldsmith. A true Renaissance man, he loves adventures, fights, and wine-and is capable of standing his ground even against the Pope.
Francesco (Tenor) - An artisan.
Fieramosca (Baritone) - The Pope’s official sculptor, a foolish and cowardly man.
Pompeo (Baritone) - Fieramosca’s friend, a swordsman.
Pope Clement VII (Bass) - Spiritual and temporal ruler of Rome. His love of art makes him indulgent towards artists like Cellini.
Balducci (Bass) - The Papal treasurer and Teresa’s father, a miserly old man.
Bernardino (Bass) - An artisan
