Act II, Scene II: Flora's salon in Paris. Guests are being entertained with gossip and gambling at Flora's party. She and Dr. Grenvil are surprised to hear from the Marquis d'Obigny that Violetta and Alfredo have separated, and that Baron Douphol is bringing Violetta to the party. They are diverted by a group of ladies disguised as gypsies who pretend to read fortunes, and then by Gaston and some friends dressed as matadors.

Gypsies:
Noi siamo zingarelle
Venute da lontano;
D'ognuno sulla mano
Leggiamo l'avvenir.
Se consultiam le stelle
Null'avvi a noi d'oscuro,
E i casi del futuro
Possiamo altrui predir...
We are gypsies,
Come from afar;
The fortunes of all
We can read in their hands.
When we call upon th stars,
Nothing is hidden from us,
And we can tell you all
What the future holds in store...
